  THE WEDDING

As some of you might know, the big day is fast approaching (August 27, 2005)! So if you don't know any details here they are:

  MaggieABOUT MAGGIE

Hello from the bride to be! Let's see, how cheesy can I make this... I'm a Taurus (and certainly embody the stubborn trait that is associated with the bull) and love to take long walks on the beach, fine dining, and fine wine. No, seriously.

  SamABOUT SAM

He's a Gemini (but we can't tell you his imaginary devilish twin's name; that's just a secret between us three), and loves rugby, beer, long walks on the beach, fine dining and fine wines. Oh, and fine women, obviously!!

  HOW WE MET

We met on Yahoo personals. [Hey, I wonder if we could get them to pay for the wedding if we told them how successful the service was for us..?] I saw Sam's profile and thought "gee, he's cute and he sounds intelligent. What have I got to lose?" So, I wrote to him. He was very impressed that I knew that Tom Jones was Welsh. So, we exchanged some very flirtatious emails and instant messages and decided to meet in person. We met at the Aruba Beach Cafe in Lauderdale by the Sea. He was already there waiting when I got there (I was a few minutes late). When he stood up to greet me, we went to kiss each other in the European way, but we got turned around and kissed on the lips!

WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED

December 24, 2004

Maggie and the ring (you have to look closely)HOW IT HAPPENED

After some pushing and prodding by me, he finally decided to make some progress toward making an honest woman out of me and proposed on Christmas Eve. Earlier in the day, he'd made sure we were going to open our Christmas presents to each other by sitting on the couch (actually, he'd asked me this about 100 times, so I should have known something was up). So, we got back from a lovely evening at my brother Don's house, and sat on the couch to open presents (when he hid the box with the ring in it under the couch). He opened up his presents from me first (clothes, watch, etc.). Then, I opened up my presents from him. He was being a big baby by saying that he had only got me a couple of things (my favorite perfume and a watch), which I opened and loved, of course. Then, he said, "well, I did get you this other thing." And the brought out the box from under the couch and handed it to me. He then said, "I got you this because I want you to marry me." Of course, I said "yes!!"

  ABOUT THE BIG DAY

Our wedding is all about gathering the people we love around us to celebrate our having found each other. We just want to have a wonderful time with you all. It's an evening wedding, but not an overly formal one. Sam refuses to wear a tux, and I'm not a crinoline kind of chick, so it's semi-formal, I guess.

  THE REGISTRY

Well, being the "mature" adults that we are, we really don't need any gifts. The most important thing about the wedding is that our families and friends will be celebrating with us our joy in having found each other.

However, we've heard some folks already saying that they insist upon helping us out on our path as newlyweds, so we had to figure out some way to let those "insisters" be of some help. We decided that because we really don't need any household goods, we would set up a honeymoon registry, where you can treat us to a Mai Tai or two while we're in Hawaii. We'll be spending five days in Maui and five days in Kauai (and boy, are we gonna need it!!).
